OneSnap
OneSnap is a web page capture tool for OneNote that simplifies and optimizes importing web pages to your OneNote notebook.
Features
- Quickly import web pages as bitmaps from Internet Explorer into any OneNote section
- Change the title of the new page from within your browser
- Add a comment to the new page from within your browser
- Optionally limit web page width - OneSnap will scale the page if it’s wider than your specified "max width"
- Import as background image
- Optionally navigate to the new page after import
- Advanced functionality: Customize your import targets
- Create virtual import folders (see Advanced tab for more info)
- Hide folders or sections from showing up in OneSnap
- Tested with OneNote 2003 and 2007, and IE 6 & 7 (beta)

The dialog is what you get when you click the OneSnap button in IE.
It actually was one of the winners of the Microsoft OneNote PowerToy Contest, so Microsoft was supposed to release it on their web site as an official PowerToy. But I think that it got lost in the shuffle of the Office 2007 and Vista pushes. So, without further ado, download OneSnap v1.2.1 here!
Known Issues
On ON2007, the capture page’s URL and comments are occluded by the OneNote page title. You can manually fix this after importing, but it’s kinda annoying.

OneSnap installed fine for me, but I cannot get past this error message when I try to run it in IE:
Error - Couln’t capture page.

I suspect there’s a problem w/ OneSnap on systems that have been upgraded — though I don’t believe this would have anything to do with not capturing the page. Regardless, I just got my test system running again, so I’ll update to the latest IE7 and give it a try…
Justin: OneSnap currently only supports IE. I’d like to get Firefox working in the future, as I tend to use Firefox, myself, when I’m not using FeedDemon. In the meantime, if you install the IETab extension for Firefox then you can use OneSnap on “IE tabs” via the right-click context menu.

Added on July 7th, 2006 at 11:53 amYes, I did upgrade from ON2003 to ON 2007 beta. I started when I did the original beta 1 upgrade. Also, I tested with Google news, but still get the same error. All web pages seem to give the same result.

I use OneNote 2003 and use IE 7 beta 3. I wonder if any reader has successfully capture any web page with this Onesnap.

This is a Powertoy I and presumably many others would line up to pay for (and there is a commercial precedent in that tab view utility for ms word and other ms office programs, although I forget its name).
Personally, I’m just running too many great grease-monkey scripts and extensions that simplify my life ever to ever go back to ie, which severely limits my use of Onenote.

I currently don’t have plans for working on this any further. I’ve been pretty happy w/ ON2007’s “print to OneNote” functionality — it’s not perfect, but it works good enough for me. But if enough people express interest then I would definitely either continue dev or open-source the project.
I’ve looked into Firefox a few times, and have found documentation to be poor and page-capture to be difficult. I’d have to rewrite much of my plugin. I’m a Firefox user, too, so it bothers me, too, that I wasn’t able to add Firefox support. (I started w/ IE mostly because I wrote it for a MS programming competition.) As a workaround I use the “IE Tab” plugin: when I want to capture a page I use IE Tab to switch the renderer to IE, then right-click->OneSnap It! to capture the page. It’s definitely not perfect (e.g., you’ll have trouble capturing e-receipts this way), but it’s alright for most pages that don’t require a login. Otherwise, I juse use “print to OneNote 2007″.
But, definitely, if people are interested I would revisit this project - at a minimum I have no problem sharing the source code w/ other developers…
